Knoxville Bound

I will be traveling to Knoxville this Friday to spend the weekend at the 2007 Dixie District Spring Convention of SPEBSQSA, Inc.. It's been almost ten years since I was member of SPEBSQSA, but I have once again been pulled in by the comradery and beautiful music. It's also exciting to be one of 12 charter members for our new chorus, The Dirty '38s.

I thought I'd get to sing tenor in the chorus because I sang that part in quartets before leaving, but alas, I was needed in the baritone section, the same section I sang in with the Music City Chorus. Speaking of MCC, several of the guys are quite upset that some of us have "broken off" from the main group to start a new chorus. I don't get it. One part of the SPEBSQSA mission is to "perpetuate and celebrate the barbershop harmony style." Trying to prevent another chorus from forming seems to go directly against that mission. One would think that MCC is holding a grudge against us or they are worried...

We'll be singing the classic barbershop tune titled "Shine" and a beautiful arrangement of "Melancholy Baby."

UPDATE:
The Dirty '38s finished the competition in 6th Place out of 21 choruses and out-scored every single chorus in the Music category. Presentation scores were low (as expected - we didn't devote much time to it) and Singing scores were OK. We are very happy with our inaugural performance and we received a lot of compliments from the crowd. Here's looking forward to the fall contest!!

All the best to the Dirty 38's!

REMEMBER: A major 7th chord is most dissonant at its loudest, so when you hit one, really belt it out!

Sing one for me while you're there.

You got it, dude! I found out tonight at practice that we sing before Music City. It will definitely be interesting. I've heard that Hoss won't be attending though.

Is it just a few of the guys at MCC that object to your new chorus? If so, I'm sure the others will get enjoy it.

Speaking of MCC, did you get the link for the practice sessions I uploaded? Some of it's pretty good in spite of the poor sound quality.
