Sharp GF-9494X
What I look for in a boombox/ghettoblaster:
- Big (the bigger the better)
- Mostly silver in color
- One piece design (no detachable speakers)
- Lots of chrome
- Large woofers (chrome caps are a big plus)
- Square/boxy design
- Lots of knobs/switches/buttons
- LED/Analog VU meters
- Inputs for MP3 player
Here's one of my favorites. It's the Sharp GF-9494X manufactured in 1979. It was recently dressed with replica grille labels that I made with Photoshop using source images from eBay. The labels are a nice mix of pre-existing typefaces and hand-drawn elements (all vector shapes).
Isn't it a beauty?
